The honest framing
soflow builds on Webflow. That is a bias you should factor in. So let us start with the cases where WordPress is genuinely the better choice, because they exist.
When WordPress is the right call
- You depend on a specific plugin ecosystem. Complex membership tiers, LMS platforms, advanced booking logic or WooCommerce setups with deep customisation are cheaper to keep on WordPress than to rebuild.
- You have a large editorial team with entrenched workflows. If ten people publish daily inside a WordPress workflow, migration cost is a real number.
- You need self-hosting for compliance reasons. Some regulated environments require infrastructure control that Webflow does not offer.
When Webflow wins clearly
Maintenance
This is the biggest practical difference. WordPress requires ongoing plugin and core updates, and those updates occasionally break things. Webflow handles hosting, SSL, CDN and platform security itself. There is no update treadmill and far less surface area for something to fail unattended.
Security
The majority of WordPress compromises come through outdated plugins. Webflow has no plugin layer to exploit.
Performance
Webflow ships clean, minified markup on a global CDN by default. Getting equivalent Core Web Vitals on WordPress usually means a caching plugin, an image optimisation plugin, a CDN and someone who knows how to tune all three.
Design control
Webflow gives pixel-level control without the theme-fighting that page builders invite. What is designed is what ships.
Editing safety
Webflow's CMS separates content from layout. A marketer updating a blog post cannot accidentally break the page structure.
The three-year cost that comparisons skip
Build costs are broadly comparable. Total cost of ownership is not. A WordPress site typically carries hosting, premium plugin licences, security tooling and a maintenance retainer. A Webflow site carries the Webflow plan and considerably lighter maintenance. Over three years that difference is often larger than the original build cost.
Migrating without losing SEO
The migration risk everyone worries about is losing rankings. It is manageable: export content, map every old URL to a new one, implement 301 redirects, preserve title tags and meta descriptions, and keep the same content depth. We cover the process in detail in our WordPress to Webflow migration guide.
